If your fence blew down, photograph it where it lies, along with whatever fell on it, before moving anything. Then call your insurer and a fence company. In Sacramento the damage comes in winter, when a string of Pacific storms soaks the ground and the last one arrives with strong south wind. Sacramento also has a very large tree canopy, and limbs and whole trees coming down on fences is the most common story we hear.
Half my fence blew down. Who can fix it fast and what will it cost?
Call us with a photo and a rough length. A fallen section with snapped posts is a major repair, which national 2026 figures put at $900 to $2,500. After a big storm the whole region calls on the same day, so the sooner you are on the list the sooner we reach you.
My dogs are in the yard and the fence is open to the road. What can be done right away?
We can close the opening on the first visit with a temporary panel and brace whatever is still standing. The proper repair comes after. When you call, say that dogs are in the yard, or that there is a pool behind the fence. Those calls are handled first.
Is there an extra charge for emergency or weekend fence repair?
That varies from company to company, so ask when you book. Some charge more outside normal hours and some do not work them. Often the least costly plan is a quick temporary closure now and the full repair on a weekday.
Does homeowners insurance cover a fence knocked down by a storm or a tree?
It may. Many homeowners policies list a fence under other structures. Payment depends on what caused the damage, your deductible and the wording of your policy, and a small repair can come in under the deductible. Only your insurer or agent can tell you. We write an estimate you can send them.
My neighbor's tree fell on my fence. Whose insurance pays?
Normally your own policy covers your own fence, wherever the tree was rooted. The answer can change if the tree was plainly dead or dangerous and the owner had been warned about it. Ask your insurer. If the fence stands on the boundary and you share it, see the California note at the bottom of this page.
The insurer offered much less than the repair quote because the fence is old. Now what?
Ask them to show how they reached the figure. A policy may pay only what an aged fence was worth, not what a new one costs. Send back an estimate that lists each item. If the two numbers stay apart, many owners repair only the part that fell and keep the rest.
The storm knocked the fence down and my neighbor says it is mine. Who pays?
If the fence stands on the boundary, California Civil Code section 841 presumes that both owners benefit equally and are equally responsible for the reasonable cost of repairing or replacing it, unless they have a written agreement that says otherwise. Most side and rear fences in Sacramento neighborhoods are boundary fences. If you disagree about where the boundary is, that is a question for a licensed land surveyor, not for us. Our shared fence page covers the written notice the law requires.
